Building Stronger Connections
Uniting Foster/Kinship Families in Napa County
How Expressions of Hope Serves Resource Families
Mentorship Program
Our mentorship program is a cornerstone of our support system, designed to assist new Resource parents embarking on the rewarding yet challenging journey of fostering.
Experienced foster parents volunteer as mentors, offering guidance, practical advice, and emotional support to the newcomers.
This one-on-one support helps new foster parents navigate the complexities of the foster care system, understand the needs of foster children, and integrate into the broader foster parent community.
By matching new families with seasoned mentors, we ensure every foster parent has the tools and confidence needed to succeed and thrive in their new roles.
Community Events
Expressions of Hope believes in the power of community to transform the foster care experience.
We regularly organize events and outings for licensed Resource Families, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support among foster children and parents alike.
From family picnics and holiday parties to educational workshops and fun days out, these events are designed to build friendships and provide enjoyable, purposeful activities for everyone involved.

How Our Services Benefit Families
Expressions of Hope plays a pivotal role in enhancing the lives of foster/kinship families in Napa County by providing vital support and fostering a sense of community. Our programs are specifically designed to address the unique needs of these families, offering both immediate and long-term benefits that enrich their fostering experience.
-
One of the most significant benefits our programs offer is emotional and social support. The journey of fostering can be emotionally taxing, filled with highs and lows. By participating in our mentorship program, foster parents receive personalized guidance and support from experienced mentors who understand the complexities of fostering. This one-on-one support helps to alleviate stress and anxiety, providing new foster parents with the confidence and resources needed to navigate their new responsibilities effectively.
Our support groups, such as "Dads and Donuts" and "Moments with Mom," offer a platform for foster parents to share their experiences and challenges in a supportive environment. These groups help foster parents feel less isolated by connecting them with others who understand their situation intimately. The Spanish-speaking support group further ensures that non-English speaking parents are fully included in our community, allowing them to receive support in their preferred language.
-
Our community events are designed to strengthen the bonds between foster/kinship families and the children they care for. These events provide fun, relaxed settings where families can interact with each other and build lasting friendships. For foster children, these events are especially important as they offer a sense of normalcy and fun, allowing them to engage in activities that children outside the foster system frequently enjoy. This helps in fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance among the children, which is crucial for their emotional development.
-
Expressions of Hope ensures that foster/kinship families have access to necessary resources without the burden of additional costs. From providing essentials for new foster placements through our Bags of Hope to furnishing homes with necessary items from our Resource Center, we significantly reduce the financial and logistical strain on foster families. This allows them to focus more on providing a loving, nurturing environment for the children in their care.
-
Our programs encourage and facilitate the integration of foster/kinship families into the broader community. By engaging local businesses, schools, and other stakeholders in our activities, we help foster/kinship families feel a part of their community. This integration not only enhances the support system for the families but also promotes broader community awareness and sensitivity toward the needs and challenges of foster care.
